Youth Lab at EFL: Athletic Development for Kids Ages 9–13

Youth Lab is Elite Fitness Lab's training program for young athletes ages 9 to 13. These are the questions parents ask most.

Is strength training safe for kids this age?

Yes — when it's designed and supervised correctly. Research consistently supports resistance training for young athletes when it's age-appropriate and technique-focused. What isn't safe is putting kids through adult workout programs with the volume turned down. Youth Lab is built specifically for this age group, from the ground up.

What does Youth Lab actually train?

The focus is foundational athleticism — coordination, balance, body control, basic jumping and landing mechanics, and introductory strength through bodyweight and light loads. The goal is teaching young athletes how to move well. That foundation pays off in every sport they play, for the rest of their athletic life.

How is it different from sports practice?

Sports practice trains sport skills. Youth Lab trains the physical qualities that make every sport easier — strength, power, coordination, and body control. The two complement each other.

How many kids are in a session?

Six athletes maximum. Young athletes need real coaching attention on how they move, and that's impossible in a large group.

Do kids need prior experience?

No. Youth Lab works for first-time athletes and multi-sport kids alike.

How often do kids train?

Two sessions per week is the standard. That's enough to build real physical development without overloading a schedule full of school and sport.
